Frequently asked questions
1. Can I/my child try a class before committing?
Yes! We offer a two week paid trial, in which dancers can better experience the style, pace, and teaching approach before committing. Though we know it’s a no brainer to join our dance community, we believe in fair decision-making and the chance for new comers to get as an authentic version of how Nova is run week to week, to truly show new dancers what it means to be in our dance community. A longer trial helps families make a confident choice, while also ensuring the class is the right fit for the dancer’s personality, ability, and enjoyment - AN EXTRA TRIAL SESSION CAN ALWAYS BE ARRANGED IF NEEDED.
2. How do I book a trial?
Booking a trial is simple — apply for a trial via our online booking system and email us with your enquiry, and we’ll help you choose the most suitable class for your child’s age and level.
3. What should I/my child wear for their trial?
Comfortable clothing they can move in (like leggings and a t-shirt) and bare feet or soft shoes are perfect for a trial. Once they’ve joined, we’ll provide uniform guidance.
4. How do I order the uniform?
Uniform can be ordered directly through our recommended suppliers, with the links found on our Uniform page on our Website. A detailed breakdown for each class is also given, ensuring they have the correct attire for their class.
5. Why is uniform important?
Uniform ensures students can move safely, helps teachers check correct technique, and creates a sense of belonging and pride within the school.
6. Are there performance opportunities?
Yes! We regularly provide opportunities for students to perform, from in-house showcases to larger productions. These experiences help build confidence, teamwork, and stage presence. Every Summer Term we hold a Watch Week and invite families to sit in our classes. We hold a bi-annual show within a local theatre, for all to see!
7. Do students take exams?
We follow graded syllabi, which give students clear goals and progression routes. Exams are encouraged but not compulsory — they are taken at the teacher’s discretion when a student is ready.
8. What qualifications do the teachers hold?
All classes are taught by qualified, experienced teachers who are passionate about inspiring all dancers that come our way. Our staff are trained in their disciplines and hold relevant safeguarding, DBS and First Aid certifications.
9. Where are classes held?
Classes run across our local venues, chosen for their safe, welcoming facilities. Full venue details and directions are provided when booking. Furthermore addresses with maps can be found on our Locations page.
10. What age can my child start?
Children can join from as young as 3 years old in our Mini classes, and we have classes available right through to Adults.
11. How do payments work?
As of January 2026, we will be implementing Direct Debits enabeling payments to be spread out over the months rather than a bulk payment before term. For our Adult classes, we also offer 3 for £30.00 CLASS PASS option, for those who prefer the flexibility within their timetable.
12. Do you run Adult classes?
Yes! We have adult sessions in Ballet, Tap, Commercial and Musical Theatre. These are friendly, inclusive, and open to all levels — no previous experience required.
13. Will my I/child make friends?
Absolutely. Our classes are not only about dance but also about building friendships, confidence, and a sense of community. Many students make friends for life at Nova!
